A Team Approach

We specialize in a collaborative approach to document review where our consultants are experts in early case assessment and review workflows using artificial intelligence. PD maintains a very high contractor retention rate, which ensures high-quality work-product and preserves case-specific institutional knowledge.

Technology and Management Expertise

Our Managed Review marries our extensive experience in document review with deep expertise in information management, search and analytics technologies and statistics-based quality control to create a smart, repeatable, efficient and defensible document review solution.

We are proactive from the start.

Just like sky diving, with document review the quality of the final result depends entirely on the quality of the prep work. We actively assist with early case needs such as intelligent workflow planning, search term assistance, database culling and more. We’d rather impress you up front with our efficiency than surprise you at the end with a high number of review hours.

We organize for effectiveness.

We know that using smaller, experienced and more knowledgeable teams coordinated by our trusted Managed Review Consultants produces more efficient, consistent and accurate results than just “throwing bodies” at the problem. We use a pyramid approach to build our managed review staff, organizing attorney reviewers into multiple small teams, each led by a highly seasoned attorney. Attorneys are placed on small teams based on their skills to maximize knowledge and expertise within each group, while balancing budget and schedule. Each review team then focuses on specific topics, guided by the needs of the case team.

We scale up the review staff only as needed, and scale the teams back down based on the needs of the client and the case. Compared to a flat management structure where reviewers are added to one large team, our pyramid team approach provides greater consistency, accuracy and scalability. When the demands of a case grow in size or complexity, we can quickly add another team.

We continually re-evaluate our approach for efficiency.

At other managed document review providers, lead attorneys often set the course and then leave it to their teams to execute.

At Precision, we repeatedly assess our processes and determine the applicability of technology throughout the entire review because things change as reviews progress. As the case and review progresses, counsel’s theory of the case and understanding of the case may evolve. Our approach allows us to adapt to these changes and provide the appropriate feedback to counsel. We find that our results are markedly improved when we continually re-evaluate our approach during the case. This helps ensure that our clients get the best results in the most efficient way possible.

We actually know our reviewers.

Many managed review firms outsource the work. They often offshore the task or hire people even without an interview, handing that task over to a search firm or temp agency.

Not us. Our approach works only through experience, trust and respect. We know these values are earned, not hired. Besides, it’s more enjoyable to work with people you know and like, which also fosters collaboration.

We know perspective matters.

At Precision, our Managed Review practice isn’t in a silo; it is interwoven with our complete, end-to-end discovery practice. Our people, their knowledge and our best practices come from that larger perspective. It means we have a deep arsenal of tools and the expertise to apply them and maximize efficiency.

Also, we empower all our reviewers to use their many years of education and experience to provide value to our clients. We know good ideas do not just come from the top. Because our managed reviews are team affairs, multiple people with different perspectives spanning all aspects of the project are encouraged to evaluate our workflows and provide input. This helps to solidify the team and provides valuable insights into the documents we review as well as the processes used to review them.

We provide a defensible process.

When it comes to results, you do not have to take our word for it. We use statistical sampling in all our reviews to validate our results. We apply similar sampling workflows used in TAR reviews to our managed document review process. This allows us to work closely with litigation counsel to ensure that our coding is accurate. This one step provides transparency, defensibility and peace of mind to our clients in a process that is usually seen as opaque.

Human expertise combined with advanced technology is key.

Document review is often the most expensive portion of litigation. But that also means it’s the area where you can save the most money by doing it right. That’s where our experience with advanced eDiscovery tools and technologies really shines.

  • Textual Analytics Tools – Our Managed Review Consultants are experienced in integrating kCura’s Relativity Analytics and state of the art conceptual classification tools into our managed review workflows.
  • Advanced Searching Techniques – Our Managed Review Consultants are highly experienced in creating advanced searches using keywords, concepts, metadata and more, to make finding the documents you need within your database faster and easier. Our search techniques can also defensibly identify large groups of documents to exclude from traditional review.
  • Creative Workflow Solutions – Document review projects need leadership by someone who can think on their feet and work with you to provide what you need, despite issues that may arise throughout your case. We work with you as a team to get you what you need when you need it. For example, to increase efficiency and accuracy, we leverage our technology team’s deep understanding of structured data to keep data in context. Data from systems such as SharePoint and Force.com has a tremendous amount of rich metadata associated with it. Unlike our competition, which often simply removes data from native systems and – in the process – destroys the metadata correlation, our technical team and managed review team work together to keep that correlation intact. The correlation allows our team to dramatically reduce the amount of documents to review.
